Hummingbird Market on the Keelan River

Sell at the Market

Every booth at the Hummingbird Market on the Keelan River is free to open. You only pay when something sells. Here’s how selling with us at KR works, what it costs, and the paperwork you can read before you sign up.

How selling works

Made to order, with your say so.

Nothing sits on a shelf here. We make each piece in our San Diego shop when it’s ordered, on our UV printer, laser, leather, sublimation, and wood gear. No minimums, no inventory, no shipping boxes in your living room.

  1. Open your booth

Bands, organizations, makers and businesses can all open a booth along the river. It’s free, and there’s no contract to sign up.

  2. Authorize your art

Every artwork upload needs your authorization. Logos must be yours or authorized. Nothing gets made with your name on it without your say so.

  3. Brendan approves

Brendan reviews and approves every booth, and nothing goes into production until he does. Designs usually come back within 24 to 48 hours, sometimes with a first prototype.

  4. We make it when it sells

Every piece is made to order. You set the retail price, and everything left after costs and fees is yours.

  • Already have a store? Link it.Your booth sends shoppers straight to your own store. Our fee is 15% of the item price on sales we send your way.
  • We make it for you.Send us your art. We make each piece when it’s ordered and run checkout. Your booth tier sets the fee.
  • Custom design.Adapting your existing art is free. A brand new design is $75, credited back once 25 units sell.
  • No store yet? We’ll set one up for you and connect it to your booth. We’ll send a quote first.

Start your swag store

Start your swag store.

Two quick steps. Pick a booth tier, then tell us at KR about your art and what you want made. Opening a booth is free, and you only pay when something sells.

Nothing goes live for your booth until you approve a preview.

Step 1 Pick a booth tier

Booth fees are on the item price only, never on shipping or tax. Full pricing.

Step 2 Tell us about your store

Highest resolution you have: vector (Illustrator, EPS, SVG, PDF) or PNG/TIFF at 300 dpi. Name each file so we know what it is, like logo-main.png or album-cover.tif.

So we know what you already sell. We only make new items, never copies of your merch.

You set the retail price. We’ll confirm base costs before anything goes on sale.

Nothing goes live for your booth until you approve a preview.

      Questions

      Fees, payouts and authorization.

Does it cost anything to open a booth?

No. Every booth is free to open, and you only pay when something sells. The one optional monthly plan is the Pro Booth at $49 a month, which lowers the booth fee to 8%.

What are your fees if I link my own store?

15% of the item price on sales we send your way. Never on shipping, never on tax. Sales that don’t come from us cost you nothing.

Example: a fan clicks your booth and buys a $35 tee in your store with code HUMMINGBIRD. You owe us $5.25.

What comes out of a sale when you make it for me?

You set the retail price. Three things come out of each sale, and everything left over is yours:

      • Base production cost to make and pack the item. These are set after our first supply order, once supplies are ordered and quantities are known.
      • Booth fee for your tier, on the item price only: Founding Booth 10% (locked for 12 months, our first ~25 booths), Open Booth 15%, Pro Booth 8% ($49 a month), Org Booth 5% (0% for nonprofits).
      • Card processing, passed through at cost: 2.9% + 30¢ per order, on the item price only.

Booth fees and card processing are never charged on shipping or tax. On an Open Booth, a $35 tee leaves you $28.43 minus the tee’s base production cost. See every tier.

How do you know a sale came from my booth?

Your booth link carries a little tag, plus a Hummingbird code like HUMMINGBIRD set up in your store. If you use Shopify Collabs, UpPromote, or Refersion, we can use that instead. There’s no time limit: any sale that comes through a Hummingbird link, tag, or code counts, however long ago the click was.

When do I pay you, and when do I get paid?

If you link your own store, you get one simple report each month and pay the 15% referral fee within the 15 or 30 day window agreed with you in writing.

If we make it for you, everything left after production cost, booth fee and card processing is yours. Payment terms get agreed in writing before anything is made.

      Who handles sales tax?

If you link your store, your store collects and handles its own sales tax. We never touch it. On items we make, we run checkout and collect sales tax. That tax goes into its own separate account and is paid to the state. It never counts toward our fee or your payout.

      What does custom design cost?

Adapting your existing art to our products is free. A brand new design is $75 per design, and we credit it back to you once 25 units of that design sell. We usually get a design back to you within 24 to 48 hours, sometimes with a prototype. Finished pieces take longer, and we’ll give you a timeline when you approve the design.

What if I don’t have a store yet?

We’ll set one up for you, connect it to your booth, and show you how to run it. It’s your store, your checkout, and your sales tax. We’ll send a quote first.

Why do you need my authorization for every upload?

Because we only make things with your name on them when you say so. Every artwork upload needs your authorization, and logos must be yours or authorized. Brendan reviews and approves every booth, and nothing goes into production until he does. Everything is made with your authorization.

Do I have to sign a contract to sign up?

No. Signing up has no contract. Real contracts only go out when a project starts, and they use the prices on the pricing one-pager. You can read the documents any time.
